I posted my suggestion to visit the petition link above on a few other blogs/forums which I visit from time to time. On one particular site, auction hints I received mixed response weighing heavy with supporters of the fee hike.
One man specifically, Jim Wilson, whom I hold in above average esteem due mainly to the fact that he is a recognized eBay seller of some seniority, had an interesting take on the situation. I can only hope that he was exaggerating to make a point when he mentioned that he would be willing to pay eBay over 80% of an item's selling price just for the honor of using eBay's highly trafficked service. I do understand his inference that eBay provides excellent exposure for online merchants, but I fear the need for proactive participation is lost on folks who would rather sit idly by the wayside of decisions, which ultimately affect their bottom line. eBay probably won't lose much sleep or money over this, but it will lose brand loyalty without a doubt. When a company decides to practically double its fees across the board, it should come as no surprise if its users jump at the first chance to join forces with competitive markets. Incidentally, Overstock Auctions said it had experienced a 50% increase in auction listings since eBay announced its new plan with fees for Stores scheduled to take effect February 18. And they aren't the only ones. LiveDeal, OnlineAuction, and uBid, all experienced sharp increases in registered users since this announcement. Another blog, eBay Strategies which comes from a very highly regarded eBay aficionado, Scott Wingo, looks at the other side of the spectrum by giving the floor to the voice of the people. He diverts our attention to a great post from yet another blog heresmybyline highlighting an interview with Mr. Durzy, which while interesting, leaves something to be desired. So, I agree with Mr. Wilson in that this is not the end of the online auction world; neither, can I let sleeping dogs lie. Will I give up on eBay? No. If something better came along, would I dare partake? Uh, yeah, I would. Clearly, for eBay and for sellers, these are business decisions. No hard feelings, right?
I'm new at the Internet as a business tool and I'm trying to find Blogs with an interest in business. I've just launched a site that helps save time and money for those interested in growing their
homebased business opportunities. Give us a visit and let us know what you think. Can't resist passing along Step13, a local drug and alcohol rehab facility. This organization is worth a second look when you have time.
